Since its start in 1934 SAA has developed into a major player in the aviation industry.More recently in 2005 and 2006, the airline embarked on an exercise to ensure a more comfortable travel experience by adjusting the economy class seating and slim-lining in-flight entertainment boxes for more legroom in all its A340-range aircraft.

In October 2006, all aircraft, with the exception of the smaller A319 and B737-800 range, were retrofitted with SAA’s award-winning lie-flat seat
